New Forms and Coming Events

Check out the up-date of our last volunteer project. We had a great time helping Camp David prepare for some up-coming camps. Go to their website to find out more abut their ministry. http://www.campdavidranch.org/. You can view photos here.

We have the summer schedule lined up. Please check your calendars and let Donna know ASAP if you plan to join us. Remember participants must be out of 6th grade in order to spend the night at the CAMps. If a parent attends, younger youth may join us at some events. It will depend on where we volunteer on the age limit. We max the CAMps out at 30 participants, so get your name on the list early, if you want to join us. A new parent permission form must be on file for everyone (Download Here). It must be notarized, and will be good for a whole year, May 2010- May 2011. If you are over 18, you will need to fill out an adult volunteer form (Download Here). For security of all participants, I will run a background check on participants over the age of 18.

  • May 1 - Metropolitan Library - Helping to prepare the summer packets.
  • June 3-5 - Corner Stone Kids Ranch, Ada OK
  • July 14-17 - Host Church TBD, Norman
  • Aug. 11-14 - Host Church: St. Joseph's Catholic Church

Local Summer Mission Camps are FREE, however, if you would like to help with the expenses, a suggested tax deductible donation of $50.00 would be appreciated.

Update

This Saturday, 19 CAM participants had a great time volunteering at the Regional Food Bank. They have made so many changes in their facility since the last time I was there. They had well over 150 volunteers from a wide range of groups there yesterday. Most groups only work for 3 hours at a time and then new groups come in. For the first three hours, we had the opportunity to work side by side with a group of senior citizens from the Servants Church out of OKC, as well as some overly hyperactive elementary age, boys in a Cub Scout troop. We all had to wear those "wonderful" hairnets that went along with our plastic gloves to prevent contamination of the frozen ears of corn, which we had to repackage. Before lunch, we repackaged four pallets of corn. When we came back in the afternoon, it was just our group. We completed seven more pallets. We repackaged 533 cases- each weighing 30 pounds, which was equivalent to 12,300 meals! Way to GO!

Remember the BIG EVENT- "1-Night in a Box" takes place this weekend, Feb. 26-27. Please click here for details. The weather forecast looks great; so grab a box and your money and come join us!

February Events

The OKC Regional Food Bank has teamed up with Disney to give away a free ticket, if you put in a day of volunteer time. If you plan to join us on Feb. 20, go ahead and sign-up for a free ticket. You need to do so prior to volunteering. Go to: Give a Day. Get a Disney Day.

Feb. 26-27 One Night in a Box - fundraiser for an agency that helps the homeless. Many of the local churches will be joining us this year.

Up-date:

The Hugs project was a huge success last Jan. 20. We had 27 participants and put in 146.5 hours of volunteer time. Walgreen’s had donated tons of Christmas candy for the troops, so a good portion of our group sorted that. We also had groups sort through cards, help create games, learn to work the Knifty Knitter kits to make hats, and do some sewing and ironing.

HUGS is always looking for volunteers and is willing to work with younger kids. If you ever want to go volunteer on your own, please contact Karen (844-8359) or (651-8359) or hugsproject@cox.net

Thank you to all that gave up their Saturday to help HUGS.

1-Night In A Box

It's BACK!!!!

The 6th annual "1-Night in a Box" event is back.

Click here for information and permission sheet, which contains all the information you will need to participate. Click here for the collection sheet. If you have never done this with CAM, I invite you to come make a memory. Many people have shared with me how participating in the "1-Night in a Box" event has made an impact in their life. It helped them to understand the needs in our own community as well as helped them to be able to look at the needs of others in a different light.

Anyone in sixth grade or older may participate. Younger youth may participate only if a parent or legal guardian accompanies the child for the whole night.

Please help us spread the news about this event. Invite a friend and or have your whole family participate.

Please let Donna know if you have any questions.
